Annotation | This first yearly report to Parliament on the state of health care and adult social care in England covers the services regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It looks at improvements and variations in performance in services, and considers three main themes. First, giving people choice and control and protecting their rights This includes: giving people choice and control over their care, treatment and support; ensuring fair access to care; promoting equality and respecting human rights; and involving people in shaping services for their local community. Second, joining up health care and social care, which will also help meet increasing demand and deliver greater value for money, as well as achieving good care outcomes. Lastly, patterns in quality and trends in performance, which also looks at three areas of care in which there was considerable variation: safety, safeguarding, and staff training. Previous reporting on these subjects were covered by 'Healthcare Commission: State of healthcare report' and 'The state of social care in England' (Commission for Social Care Inspection). A summary report, 'The state of health care and adult social care: a look at the quality of care in England' is available from the Care Quality Commission. (RH). |
