AnnotationPeople aged 85+ now occupy most hospital beds per ratio of population, and have complex healthcare needs requiring high levels of care. The guidance in this CD-ROM is intended as a tool for nurses in supporting nurses in their work with older people. It updates an earlier set of national guidance from the Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee (SNMAC, 2001) that was launched at the same time as the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF). The article 'Guidance on best practice in acute care' (Nursing Older People, vol 21, no 10) discusses how this CD-ROM can help improve care. The authors explain how nurses can use the best practice statements on the CD-ROM to adapt their own practice and influence practice of others for the benefit of patients and staff. (RH)
