AnnotationFrom June 2003, every Scottish local authority has had to offer those who are eligible the opportunity to direct their own support. Self-directed support is an alternative system for people who have been assessed by their social work department as needing support. It is a way of giving people more control over how their care needs are met and being in control of the support they need to live life as they choose. This pamphlet explains entitlement to, claiming and arranging services for self-directed support as it applies in Scotland. It also explains how self-directed support can be used either to buy services from an agency or by employing Personal Assistants (PAs). Other information sources and organisations are suggested.
