Annotation | Deeper understanding of the brain damage underlying dementia illuminates and validates the person-centred approach to dementia. In this first of a series of six articles, the author comments on the usefulness of developments in knowledge about the human brain in understanding and exploring dementia care. Central to person-centred care has been the work of Bradford Dementia Group led by Murna Downs, and originally by the late Tom Kitwood and his 'Dementia reconsidered' (1997). The author has been developing educational material for the Masters degree in dementia studies at Bradford, in which BDG's original research has proved invaluable. (RH). |
