AnnotationStandard One of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) aims to ensure that "older people are never unfairly discriminated against in accessing NHS or social care services as a result of their age". This is the first primary care age discrimination benchmarking tool. It contains data for on flu immunisations, prescribing of a range of categories of drugs and dental registrations. It is designed to help those responsible for commissioning or delivering social care services at a local level. Age discrimination benchmarking tools are intended to assist local consideration of how far local practice achieves NSF Standard One, and to assist local health and social care communities in looking for evidence of possible age discrimination. This guide explains the tools's inputs and outputs; how the categories were created; and explains quartile analysis. Two illustrative examples are included: prescribing of beta and receptor blocking drugs (beta blockers) in Hammersmith and Fulham; and flu vaccination in Wycombe. (RH).
