Annotation | South Africa has one of the most rapidly ageing populations in Africa; and despite the high burden of HIV/AIDS, those aged 60+ are expected to make up about 10% of the total population within the next 15 years. While the promulgation of the Older Persons Act in 2006 could provide a framework for restoring older people's dignity, this is likely to be restricted by limited finances and resources. This article also considers care of and daily life for older people in South Africa. (RH). |
