Annotation | Whatever their diagnosis, older people should have access to high quality palliative care services (including pain management) which support their physical, psychological and spiritual needs, respect their personal choice (including where advance directives have been made) and maintain their dignity. Age Concern England (ACE) presents policy objectives and supporting evidence on these and issues such as place of death, 'a good death', and assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia. This paper also notes policy developments such as the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF), legislation and legal cases. (RH). |
