AnnotationIntergenerational practice within the UK comprises a wide range of activities, including school-based programmes, community projects, health-related projects, learning and knowledge development, as well as mentoring activities. This report has been published as part of the Local Government Education and Children's Services Research Programme. It focuses on a literature review of what is known about the effectiveness of intergenerational practice, conducted by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) for the Local Government Association (LGA). The review aimed to answer four questions about intergenerational practice concerning: research carried out since 2002; the kind of outcomes that can be achieved and by whom; how outcomes for different groups relate to the social objectives present in government policy; and the characteristics of effective intergenerational practice. The literature examined suggests the need for more research on the effectiveness of intergenerational practice, with more work on its conceptual development, promotion, strategic commitment, and central advocacy and coordinating function. Appendices detail the search strategy, information on the literature sample and the summary template used for reviewing each source. (RH).
