Annotation | The four studies in this special section indicate how much needs to be learned about treatment preferences of older people with advanced illness. One is a follow-up study from the Framingham Heart Study, and sheds light on advanced care planning and the preferences of older people in their 80s. These studies aim to elicit more questions, such as how do we encourage conversations about end-of-life care, and how do we encourage institutions to assess and treat symptoms in a multidimensional way?
