Annotation | Co-production is about individuals, communities and organisations having the skills, knowledge and ability to work together, create opportunities and solve problems. This guide has been co-produced by a small team of older people, strategic leads / senior managers from three local authorities (Dorset, Barnsley, and Brighton and Hove) and representatives from Helen Sanderson Associates (HSA) and the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi). The team identified seven principles for co-producing services, and this guide uses stories to illustrate how local authorities and their partners could apply them. First, older people are involved throughout - from the beginning to the end. Second, older people feel safe to speak up and are listened to. Third, work on the issues that are important to older people. Fourth, it is clear how decisions are made. Fifth, older people's skills and experiences are used in the process of change. Sixth, meetings, materials and venues are accessible for older people: they can get there, prepare, be heard and follow progress through reports and minutes. Lastly, progress is evaluated through looking at the actual changes in older people's lives. Readers are invited to share stories and examples of co-production on the NDTi and HSA websites (www.ndti.org.uk and www.helensandersonassociates.co.uk). The work of the team was funded by the Putting People First Delivery Team at the Department of Health (DH) as part of a wider guide looking at how to personalise services and support with and for older people.
