AnnotationOn 1 April 2009, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) assumed responsibility for regulating adult social care in England from the former Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and its previous reporting on this subject in 'The state of social care in England'. This report looks at the quality, capacity and performance of services provided by care homes, shared lives schemes (formerly known as adult placement schemes) and nursing agencies. It gives average percentages for individual national minimum standards (NMS) met by social care services, and percentages of services meeting or exceeding individual national minimum standards. Where available, it provides data on performance trends since 2003. Another volume, 'Performance judgements for adult social care services: an overview of the performance of councils in England' (same ISBN) reports on services provided by local councils. (RH).
