Annotation'Building a society for all ages' (Cm 7655) is the government's refreshed ageing strategy, replacing 'Opportunity Age' (2005), and which describes current policy and sets out a number of new initiatives. Age Concern and Help the Aged consider that new strategy as "disappointing", as important issues - such as reducing levels of inequality, tackling social isolation and pension provision - have been "almost totally sidelined". While issues such as extending working lives and changes in attitudes to older people have been included, the proposals are "not proportionate to the scale of of the challenges". There are many "re-announcements" of policies and initiatives; and notwithstanding the economic situation, there are almost no new resources. (RH).
