Annotation | Practitioners working in dementia care are commonly involved with patients who reside, or will require placement, in a residential or nursing home. Recent legislation sets out rigorous safeguards to protect patients in this regard. Topics covered in this article include the use of guardianship (under the Mental Health Act 2007) and the safeguards against deprivation of liberty (from April 2009, enshrined in law as the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards under the Mental Capacity Act 2005).
