AnnotationThe Department of Health have a statutory requirement to produce this report (pursuant to Section 22 of the 1970 Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act). This report outlines a selection of the research and development activity relating to assistive technology (AT) funded by the government undertaken by FAST. However, FAST's database incorporates work funded from a wide range of sources. Categories of assistive technology covered include communication aids; aids for people with hearing, visual or learning impairments; housing; and mobility. The first report published in 2001 covers research undertaken during 1999-2000. Full details of all the work funded are available on the Foundation for Assistive Technology (FAST) website (www.fastuk.org), together with information on research funded from other sources and the annual reports to download.
