AnnotationAge Concern and Help the Aged comment on a consultation proposing that smart meters for electricity and gas support be installed in all homes. It is hoped that by providing real time information, households will be persuaded to reduce their energy consumption and also bring an end to estimated bills. This response also notes issues about data protection, the competence of those installing smart meters, and the importance of inclusive design that is helpful to older and disabled people. In addition, those who live in fuel poverty on low income are likely to bear the costs of the smart meter programme with none of its benefits. (RH).
