Annotation | This special issue of the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships presents selected papers from the 2006 conference, Uniting the Generations: a Japan Conference to Promote Intergenerational Programs and Practices, organised by the Japan Intergenerational Unity Association (JIUA), Penn State University, Shinsu University and a number of partner organisations. The 12 papers represent a cross-section of intergenerational work in Japan in the early 21st century. These range from older people reading to children or engaged in lifelong learning activities in schools, and the influence of adults in paying attention to environmental changes in children's playing spaces, to the frequency of intergenerational contacts within families. Seven shorter articles discuss examples of university and community intergenerational initiatives. (RH). |
