Annotation | This is the second in a series of Local Government Association (LGA) papers on the future of social care and support. It looks at the current system of adult care funding, the current and future costs of care and support, and ways in which councils, working with partners, are doing their best to make the most of available resources. Councils are currently contributing nearly 40% toward total social care expenditure through council tax. This is not sustainable, given the increased demand for service. There is a need for a greater focus on prevention and early intervention, and stronger partnership working between councils and the National Health Service (NHS) to make the most of our resources.
