Annotation | The health of many older patients is being jeopardised through lack of attention at mealtimes. With 40% of older people malnourished on admission to hospital, Age Concern and Help the Aged's Hungry to be Heard campaign is calling for patients to have their weight and height taken on admission and at regular intervals. This article looks at malnutrition in the older population, and offers tips and sources for further information on how we can ensure that older people eat properly. A scheme using volunteers to help patients at Darlington Memorial Hospital is offered as a case study. (RH). |
