AnnotationUnder the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the legal framework for the regulation of health and adult social care is changing. From April 2010, NHS trusts, existing health and adult social care providers registered with former commissions, and new providers will be required to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in order to be able to operate. To do so, they must show that they are meeting a wide range of essential standards and quality set out under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Registration Requirements) Regulations 2009. This introduction outlines the main points being consulted on: guidance about compliance; impact assessment; and equality impact assessment. Responses to the consultation are sought by 24 August 2009. (RH).
