Annotation | The link between cognition, gait and the potential for falls is being increasingly recognised; and the editors of this special section review some of the literature. In eight more articles, other experts present new data that further explore the mechanism underlying this link. Themes examined include: age-associated effects on dual tasks in relation to gait speed or health; executive function and balance; executive function and cognitive impairment; navigation; attention when carrying out another task when walking; the effect of competing attentional demands when walking; and the possibility of cognitive impairment and underlying mobility impairment.
