AnnotationOlder women workers represent an increasing proportion of the workforce in the European Union (EU), especially in the 55-64 age group. However, data from recent Eurofound and Eurostat publications show that considerable gender differences remain in relation to work. These findings consider this evidence base in respect of demographics, equality between men and women, female employment rates (full-time, part-time, temporary and insecure). Other issues explored include occupational segregation; risk exposure and health problems; work-life balance and care responsibilities; and the future of retirement age in the next ten years. Some case examples where older women workers are a major focus of companies are outlined. (RH).
