AnnotationAgeing will be a dominant theme in the 21st century, and is likely to occupy an increasing amount of policymakers' attention. This book is based on research conducted in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs for the World Economic and Social Survey 2007. It aims to facilitate discussion in furthering the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) adopted by UN member states in 2002, and the broader policy debate on how societies should adapt to ageing populations. Chapters analyse the challenge of population and migration policies; adapting living conditions in ageing societies and empowering older people; economic growth and labour market policies; pension system reforms and their impact on income security in old age; and the provision of adequate health and long-term care.
