AnnotationPopulation ageing has become an increasing concern for Governments in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region. In 2007, UNECE member States took stock of the commitments made in the Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS) for the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) in 2002. The UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing reviewed the RIS and identified priorities for the future. This volume includes material presented at the Conference, starting with the León Ministerial Declaration, 'A society for all ages: challenges and opportunities'. Keynote papers and Panel discussions examine these themes: changing integrated approaches to mainstream ageing; participation and social inclusion; towards a balanced care strategy; living longer, working longer, and challenges for education, the labour market and social protection; intergenerational collaboration; and active ageing. This volume aims to inspire broader debate on the issues discussed. (RH).
