AnnotationLow self-esteem and confidence can make someone feel cut off from society and social exclusion can lead to depression and other mental illnesses. June Kathchild, as Development Officer, explains about the Ransackers project, which has created a growing range of opportunities for older people to study (for the first time), giving the students a renewed zest for life. The name 'ransackers' is from the Gaelic 'ransaachadh' meaning : search, explore, scrutinise, discover, plunder and was coined by Vi Hughes, the originator of the programme. (KJ/RH).
