Annotation | The overall aim of the Inquiry into the Future for Lifelong Learning (IFLL), which was established in September 2007, is to offer an alternative and coherent strategic framework for lifelong learning in the UK. This is the first Thematic Paper to be published and is one of the 30 supplementary papers available for download from the Inquiry website (www.lifelonglearninginquiry.org.uk). It highlights the need to be able to learn throughout our extended lifespan, to build and maintain our employability, to maintain our self-confidence and identity, and be able to contribute to the future of the community. It examines the current situation in education and training and the implications of demography for learning. It concludes that people will still need opportunities to learn, to support themselves and their dependents, and to engage in wider society. A curriculum for the fourth age is suggested. (RH). |
