AnnotationThe National Collaborating Centre for Chronic Conditions, based at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), has developed these guidelines. This quick reference guide summarises the recommendations NICE has made to the NHS in 'Rheumatoid arthritis: the management of rheumatoid arthritis in adults' (NICE clinical guideline 79). It updates NICE technology appraisal guidance 72 (November 2003) and partially updates NICE technology appraisal guidance 27 (July 2001). It outlines the key priorities for implementation: referral for specialist treatment and the care pathway; pharmacological management; monitoring the disease; and coordination of care by a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Attention is drawn to patient-centred care that takes into account patients' individual needs and preferences. (RH)
