AnnotationBrief article reporting on a new law abolishing the compulsory retirement age of 68 for GPs and specialists in primary care in Germany from January 2009. The new law has been introduced because of a shortage of doctors in rural areas and small towns. By 2012, a shortfall of about 41000 doctors is expected. The German Medical Association (Bundesärztekammer) has welcomed the law. (KJ/RH).
