Annotation | The author considers that Britain should adopt a population policy in view of the pace of growth as well as the ageing of the country's population. Any policy adopted must be "pro old people" to create an age-friendly society. However, rates of consumption to ensure environmental sustainability should be of equal concern. Population trends globally are also considered and projected growth figures for the year 2050 are given. The author is Professor of Geography at Newcastle University. (KJ/RH). |
