Annotation | Care home residents in Scotland are back playing the sports of their youth, courtesy of Nintendo Wii. Twenty homes in the Four Seasons Health Care group were the first to receive the games consoles for their residents to use. This article reports on the physical, cognitive and social benefits for residents at the Gower Home in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Children from local schools have visited and shown residents how to play the games, and in the process helped bridge the gap between the generations. The Alzheimer's Society would like there to be research into whether computer-based stimulation can slow the progress of dementia or reduce the risk. (RH). |
