Annotation | The NHS next stage review final report includes the launch of consultation on an NHS Constitution. This report emphasises concepts of quality of care and personalisation of services. Every primary care trust (PCT) will commission comprehensive well-being and prevention services, in partnership with local authorities, with the services offered personalised to meet the specific needs of their local populations. Among policies proposed of interest to the older population are: ensuring that everyone with a long-term condition has a personalised care plan; piloting of personal health budgets; and guaranteeing patients access to the most clinically and cost effective drugs and treatments. Putting frontline staff in control and supporting NHS staff to deliver high quality care are other priorities discussed. (RH). |
