AnnotationFundamental rights and freedoms are common to us all. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, agreed in 1948, recognises "the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family as the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world". This pamphlet is part of Liberty's Common Values, Common Ground campaign on the importance of the Human Rights Act 1998, which brought the rights from the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law. Further information about human rights, the Human Rights Act, and the relevance of rights to individuals and communities can be found on Liberty's human rights information website (www.yourrights.org.uk). Another website (www.commonvalues.org.uk) focuses on Liberty's campaign to defend the Act. (RH).
