Annotation | A team from the University of Warwick and the University of the West of England (UWE) with support from the University of York identified very little published evidence on residential care homes pointing to supporting improved care as the needs of older people intensify. Of some 1700 references found that was of interest to the review's topic areas, fewer than 50 included mention of residential homes in their title. Key papers were extracted and assessed by four reviewers in terms of their capacity to contribute in a meaningful way to the review. This annotated bibliography presents the findings on seven main themes: residents' and relatives' views on care; clinical areas for improvement (with nine sub-themes, e.g. palliative care and nutrition);. medication in care homes; medical input into care homes; the interface between care homes and other services; and models of care improvement in care homes. For each theme, the bibliography mainly relates to provision of care in nursing homes. The review was carried out for a Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) project, 'A comparative study of different models of improved care in care homes'. A link on the JRF website (https://www.jrf.org.uk/knowledge/findings/socialcare/2326.... refers the user to related documents that expand on the key points. (RH) |
