AnnotationFollowing the consultation, 'Transforming the quality of dementia care' (June 2008), the Department of Health (DH) has developed this national strategy for dementia services. The strategy has 17 key objectives, the first few being: improving quality public and professional awareness and understanding of dementia; good-quality early diagnosis and intervention for all; good-quality information for those with diagnosed dementia; and enabling easy access to care, support and advice following diagnosis. Following an introduction by joint leads Sube Banerjee and Jenny Owen, an executive summary outlines the objectives and comments on shortcomings of current provision. The document presents the strategy in terms of outcomes: raising awareness and understanding; early diagnosis and support; and living well with dementia. Annex 2 summarises related documents that set the policy in context. (RH).
