Annotation | The 2005 strategy paper 'Opportunity age' (Cm 6466) set out the Government's strategy for older people and the ageing society. This discussion paper is prompted partly by the completion of many of the activities outlined in 'Opportunity age', and by the growing awareness of the need for all parts of society to adapt to the challenges and opportunities posed by an ageing society. The Government has identified, and this paper considers four areas where changes would make the most difference to meeting the challenges of an ageing society: creating an age-friendly society; preparing for later life; living well in later life; and providing stronger protection and support. Together with a series of events being run November 2008-January 2009, this is part of the first stage of a review of the 'Opportunity age' strategy. The discussion period begins on 25 November 2008 and runs until 20 January 2009, and responses can either be sent to the Ageing Strategy Team or via the web link. A more detailed set of ideas will be published in spring 2009. (RH). |
