AnnotationExamples of research in the UK, the Netherlands, Canada and the US demonstrate the value of activities - whether daily household chores, social involvement, work-related endeavours - for people with dementia. The editor's introductory article, 'Meaningful activities for people with dementia', sets the scene. One development is the. Enriched Opportunities Programme, a form of occupational therapy, described in two articles by staff from the Bradford Dementia Centre. A key role in the Programme is that of the "Locksmith", a senior staff member responsible for discovering and developing "keys" to unlock the potential for well-being in the person with dementia. Other articles look at: coping; the use of different treatments for depression; the role of religious identity; and piano instruction as therapy. (RH)
