AnnotationAge Concern England (ACE) responds to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) consultation, 'No one written off: reforming welfare to reward responsibility' (see DWP website at http://www.dwp.gov.uk/welfarereform/noonewrittenof... While welcoming the government's commitment to pilot a lighter-touch approach to Pathways to Work for clients aged 50+, ACE is disappointed that recommendations to age-proof back-to-work programmes as recommended in its response to the Green Paper, 'In work, better off: next steps to full employment' (Cm 7130) have only been acknowledged to a limited extent. ACE believes that this will have a negative impact on the success of reforms for the 50+ age group. This summary of ACE's response to the DWP focuses on: promoting opportunity and realising potential; an obligation to work; simplifying and streamlining the benefits system; and empowerment so that "no one written off".
