Annotation | There is growing pressure for kinship care to be used more for child placements. This article describes a study of children placed with relatives after care proceedings. The study, 'Keeping them in the family: outcomes for children placed in kinship care through care proceedings', by Joan Hunt, Suzette Waterhouse and Eleanor Jutman, is published by BAAF (www.baaf.org.uk). Research drew on a 4-year sample of all children from two local authorities who were placed with family or friends at the end of care proceedings between 1995 and 1999. The study found that while kinship care can be a positive option, placements need to be assessed very carefully. (RH). |
