Annotation | The future funding of adult social care is of great importance given the ageing population, and there are a variety of solutions being put forward in anticipation of the next Green Paper. This article refers to the DH/DWP consultation document, 'The case for change - why England needs a new care and support system' (also known as 'Care, support, independence') and Sir Derek Wanless's report 'Securing good care for older people'. In 1999, the Royal Commission on Long-Term Care for the Elderly recommended free personal care; and for the commentators quoted in this article, this is a major gap in care policy. (RH). |
