AnnotationThis report launches the Age Concern England (ACE) campaign, "The Price of No Advice", based on a survey of more than 600 older people from around the country who have used Age Concern's information and advice services. In-depth interviews were also conducted with 13 older people between September 2007 and February 2008. 80% of the respondents had disabilities or health conditions that affected their lives; most had chronic health conditions. The report's findings cover accessing Age Concern and other information and advice services; and applying for benefits and the extra money that accrued, itself leading to reducing poverty and improving quality of life. Findings are also presented about the role of the adviser and the value of information and advice services, particularly in areas with sparse service provision. The report concludes that there is an urgent need for a government strategy in partnership with local services to provide older people with access to advice and information that would enable continued independent living.
