Annotation | Age Concern England (ACE) commissioned Helena Poldervaart of Dialogue by Design to design and run four deliberative workshops with 46 older learners (83% female, 71% aged 70+, and 74% white). The workshops were conducted in south-east England, the West of England, and the Midlands. This report presents the research findings and recommendations to policy makers and service providers, in the light of the government consultation on informal adult learning ('Informal adult learning - shaping the way ahead'; Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, DIUS, 2008). The report defines lifelong learning, by referring to examples of pilot schemes funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) until October 2008. It presents participants' views on the benefits of and barriers to lifelong learning. ACE recommends that government must address three priority areas: funding; co-ordinating and joining up of initiatives; and ensuring equity and inclusion, so that all older people have access to lifelong learning.
