Annotation | Older people visit their general practitioner (GP) more often than younger people, and most consider their GP to be the most important person in their healthcare. This report is based on findings of quantitative research commissioned by Age Concern England (ACE) carried out by BMRB. Data were collected in face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1097 older people (age 65+) in England during April 1008. While almost all participants felt that they had sufficient time to discuss everything they wanted to with their GP or practice nurse, more than one in seven experienced some difficulty in making an appointment when they wanted it. The report comments on and makes recommendations about access to primary care (including home visits), dental care and foot care. The report also draws on other recent reports on access to and experiences of GP and dental services, as well noting Ara Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review on primary and community care for the Department of Health (DH). (RH). |
