AnnotationThe focus of the review was on low level services for over 65s, that is, services which prevent or delay the need for more costly, intensive services, and which promote quality of life and older people's involvement in the community. The review notes the Audit Commission's recommendation for an Older People Strategy in its report, 'Developing effective services for older people'. The review identifies seven priority areas for promoting independence: older people as mentors and volunteers; resource networks and centres for older people; flexible transport provision; a home improvement and handy person scheme; Supporting People and housing related support; a third age service; and an Older Persons Forum to develop a countywide strategy on successful ageing. It makes 27 recommendations. (RH).
