AnnotationThe Sandwell MBC requested this Select Committee to report on services and facilities available to residents aged 50+ living in the Borough. The Committee, established in 2005, was asked to recommend to the Council how it could improve life for Sandwell's older citizens. Between June 2005 and November 2006 the Select Committee invited evidence from a wide range of stakeholders, with the active involvement of Agewell lay representatives throughout the process. This report of the Select Committee's findings and with recommendations, was submitted to Sandwell MBC by the Chair of the Select Committee, Councillor Linda Turton and Chair of Agewell, John Allen. Findings and recommendations concern issues such as ageist attitudes to older people in services and policy approaches; information provision; transport needs; dependency problems; housing; and health and social care services. As one of several achievements by the Select Committee, age is now considered in equalities impact assessments throughout Council services. (KJ/RH).
