| Annotation | This publication is the first in a new series, Series DR, which presents mortality statistics on deaths registered in 2006 in England and Wales, classified by sex and age and by other selected information collected at the time of registration. This publication replaces the annual reference volumes DH1, DH2, and DH4 and contains selected tables from these publications. This change followed a consultation period with users between May and July 2007. ONS will therefore continue to base the majority of mortality outputs on deaths registered in a particular year, rather than deaths that occurred in a particular year. For this publication, the change in outputs has the unavoidable consequence that some of the deaths registered in 2006 will have occurred in 2005 and would thus have been included in previously published tables (3% of the 2006 total). Additionally, the 2006 registration datafile also includes 1050 deaths which occurred in years prior to 2005 but not registered before 2006. (KJ/RH). |
