AnnotationThese 68 indicators measure progress in key issues for sustainable development of the environment, society and economic wellbeing, to help identify where action is required. Amongst indicators included are: contextual indicators (demography, households dwelling); society (active community participation and crime); employment and poverty (including pensioner poverty and pension provision); health (including healthy life expectancy and wellbeing); and mobility and access. To accompany the indicators, key facts are given; and a set of "traffic lights" is used to highlight whether or not progress is being made. For example, after housing costs have been taken into account, there has been a decrease in pensioners in relatively low-income households from 37% in 1990/91 to 17% in 2006/07. An A4 sized version containing the same information but with larger print and graphics is also available. (KJ/RH).
