AnnotationOld age psychiatrists and their teams have a particular responsibility in identifying and preventing elder abuse, a matter that has come to prominence with the publication of 'No secrets: the protection of vulnerable adults' (Department of Health, 2000). This report aims to define the role of doctors in the prevention, detection and management of abuse in institutions; and to raise awareness and improve practice in understanding how different forms of abuse are manifested. The report makes recommendations for organisations, clinical settings and training. (RH).
