AnnotationEthnogeriatric investigation of the impact of religion and spirituality on older people's lives starts with listening to the voices of these people practising the various traditions. As with other types of cultural investigation, people from one ethnic group must set aside historic lenses in order to adequately listen to the voices of another. This article discusses a recent investigation into listening to the voices of selected world traditions, with particular emphasis on Islam. The investigators talked to local leaders about the problems researchers tend to have studying their cultural and religious groups. Brief outlines of beliefs and appropriate multiculturally sensitive approaches to sampling are presented. (RH).
