AnnotationAfrican governments are reminded of their commitment to implement relevant recommendations in the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, 2002 (MIPAA). This article urges governments to forge policy responses and actions, and to establish best practices that include older people in policy action. Although the focus is Africa, the principles, considerations and proposals outlined may have relevance for global review and appraisal processes, specifically training for review and appraisal. The article considers: understanding commitments of MIPAA and the Regional Implementation Strategies (RIS); ensuring holistic policy responses and coordinated implementation; exploring ways of facilitating the participation of all stakeholders in the processes; collecting and disseminating evidence-based knowledge and best practices; and monitoring progress towards the achievement of MIPAA goals.
