Annotation'Spotlight on older people in the UK' looks at life for older people living in the UK. The report is based on the five key Help the Aged objectives: combating poverty; reducing isolation; challenging neglect; defeating ageism; and preventing future deprivation. Each section is illustrated by a range of statistical indicators based on the latest available figures, a commentary on the issues raised, a case study, and quotes from older people. Along with the main key theme of pensioner poverty, the report also focuses on issues of concern in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, which are variously: fuel poverty; help and support; local transport; quality of life; age discrimination; loneliness and isolation; and benefits take-up. This year, the spotlight is turned on dignity within the healthcare system. The project was supported by OPRSI (Older People Researching Social Issues) and GfK/NOP. (RH/KJ).
