AnnotationThis document is designed to signpost homecare providers to everything they need to write or review policies and procedures for protecting vulnerable adults. It provides information on: the nature of abuse; national guidance on adult protection by all four UK administrations; regulations and standards for domiciliary care; keeping abusers out of the social care workforce; links with other policies and procedures; preparing and writing an adult protection policy; and specimen procedures for responding to an allegation of abuse by a service user against a care worker. The aim is to reinforce the idea that the homecare sector has an important role to play in identifying, responding to and tackling abuse of all vulnerable people. However, it should be noted that this toolkit does not attempt to be exhaustive or a statement of law. Rather, it should compliment guidance provided by statutory agencies and local procedures for dealing with allegations of abuse. (RH).
